It is nice to meet you
How many times have you been introduced to someone in business and two seconds later you have completely forgotten their name….how embarrassing can that be?
Names are very important and the use of someone’s name is a powerful way to elevate them and you, quickly. However, many times when being introduced, our brain is so busy making a first impression of someone that we don’t hear the name, it goes in one ear and out the other. We now have no recollection of it.
To help, become aware of listening for the name and then try using the name as soon as possible after you have heard it. A good way to accomplish this may be to add their name to your response. Instead of saying “It is nice to meet you”, you can intentionally make it part of your new polish to say, “It is nice to meet you, Jane”.
Repeating the name as part of the first words you say to that person helps you to remember the name and makes the other person feel they were important enough for you to do so.
